FAQs about the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2
1.- What is the main difference between the 'ISO G2' version and previous ATEM Mini models?
The main difference lies in its ISO Recording capability and its new connections. The G2 allows recording up to 8 individual HDMI video sources + the main program in H.264 files (with a DaVinci Resolve project file) onto a CFexpress card or a 10G network disk. Additionally, it includes Thunderbolt and 10G Ethernet ports.
2.- What resolutions and video formats does the switcher support?
The switcher is compatible with all HD formats up to 1080p60 (Full HD at 60 fps). It's important to note that its 8 HDMI inputs feature automatic re-sync and format conversion, allowing you to connect cameras, consoles, or computers with different frame rates or resolutions without issues.
3.- How is streaming and internet connectivity managed?
The ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2 includes a built-in streaming engine that allows direct transmission to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, or Twitch via Ethernet (1G or 10G). It also supports connecting 5G/4G mobile phones to the USB port to use mobile data as a backup or primary connection.
4.- What are the three independent HDMI outputs used for?
The three HDMI outputs are fully assignable. They can be used for: 1) Simultaneous viewing (Multiview) of up to 16 windows, 2) Program (PGM) output for recording or sending to screens, 3) Auxiliary output to send a specific source (like Clean Feed or Preview) to a monitor or recorder.
5.- What professional audio features does the switcher include?
It features a powerful 26-channel Fairlight audio mixer with individual gain control, 6-band parametric equalizer, compressor, and limiter. It includes 2 XLR combo inputs with phantom power, and a MADI connection for 32 additional digital audio channels.
6.- How is the Thunderbolt port used and what kind of network storage does it support?
The Thunderbolt port allows using the switcher for instant replays with DaVinci Resolve or accessing the CFexpress card over a 10G Ethernet connection. The 10G connection facilitates high-speed access to network storage units like the Blackmagic Cloud Store.
7.- How many chroma compositors does it have and what effects functions are included?
It includes 4 advanced chroma compositors (for chroma keying) which are essential for overlays with green and blue backgrounds. It also features 6 independent channels for Digital Video Effects (DVE) and two media players for graphics with an alpha channel.
8.- Is the USB webcam function compatible with all software?
Yes. The USB-C outputs function as a standard UVC/UAC webcam. This means they are compatible with any video platform or streaming software (OBS, Zoom, Skype, vMix) without the need for additional drivers, outputting a 1080p signal at the program's frame rate.
9.- What file format does ISO recording create and how is it edited?
ISO recording saves individual H.264 video files for each input + the main program, with AAC audio. Most importantly, it generates a DaVinci Resolve project file (.drp) that allows the complete production to be opened in the timeline with all edits, graphics, and audio already performed on the ATEM.
10.- What is the format of the simultaneous viewing (Multiview) output?
The Multiview output is offered in HD and allows monitoring up to 16 views on a single screen. These include all inputs, the preview and program feeds, media players, streaming status, and recording status, which is essential for operator control.
