Fujifilm has revamped its X-H series with the new X-H2S, a camcorder with a fifth-generation 26Mpx X-Trans CMOS 5 HS APS-C 26Mpx sensor. Like the GFX100 II it features the new X-Processor 5. This camera has a 5-axis stabilizer that makes handheld shots look great.
This Fujifilm has a rugged, weatherproof body for use in any situation. It has 79 sealed points to offer high levels of dust and moisture resistance. It is built to operate even in temperatures as low as -10°C (-4°F).
This camera a camera that's really made for video, but it doesn't make the photographer any less of a photographer because with its 40fps burst it will freeze any moment you want to capture. Autofocus is significantly improved over the previous generation X-H1, an enhanced AF prediction algorithm in conjunction with X-Trans CMOS 5 HS and X-Processor 5 provides a big boost to subject tracking and autofocus accuracy on moving subjects, particularly in area AF and low contrast conditions.
Object detection autofocus is also possible as the processor is based on a learning technology that automatically detects and tracks moving objects. As well as human faces and eyes.
The Fujifilm X-H2S has a great 5-axis stabilisation system in the camera body. This stabilizer features 7 stops of stabilization, which makes it a great ally for handheld shooting or slow speed shooting. This stabilizer is made possible by the X-Processor 5 and a detection control function.
As for the dynamic range, up to 14 stops are possible. With this Fujifilm X-H2S it is possible to shoot with F-Log curve in addition to F-Log2 and still achieve 14 stops. This is a great advantage for post production workflows. It is also possible to work with RAW files as you can output via its HDMI port to a compatible monitor and record on it.
By combining the HDMI output with an ATOMOS device, the RAW video output from the X-H2S can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW with frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97 fps. And when combined with Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12Gs, the camera's RAW video output can be recorded as Blackmagic RAW with frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97 fps.
Internal 4:2:2 recording at 10bits is possible in both DCI/UHD 4K up to 120p and Full-HD up to 240p as well as 6.2K resolution and 30fps. Thanks to the HDMI port it is possible to record RAW in combination with a compatible external recorder. Blackmagic Raw recording is possible as well as F-Log and F-Log 2 curves.
The Fujifilm X-H2S has a remote recording function. If the file transmitter is added it supports remote recording over LAN and could control up to 4 cameras simultaneously.
In terms of ergonomics, the mount of the previous X-H1 has been updated to have a better grip. The shutter button has been conveniently adjusted to make it more intuitive. Supports both SD and CFexpress Type B cards as recording media (dual slots in the body). For more intensive use, CFexpress cards are recommended.
The
Fujifilm X-H2S is compatible with
Apple ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 LT. It also has support for
ProRes 422 Proxy when recording ProRes, which can help streamline post-production workflows to make the entire production process more agile.
The
X-H2S has a
3" moveable LCD screen with more than 1.60 million dots. If the screen is moved, the fan can be used to keep the body at a high operating temperature. On top of it there is a small 1.28" monochrome LCD monitor.
In terms of connections, the
Fujifilm X-H2S has a
USB-C so you can charge the body or even add a powerbank for faster shooting. There's also an
HDMI type A (for outputting the sensor signal to a monitor to allow recording on an external monitor), plus
two mini-jack ports for headphones and microphone. Obviously it also has a hot shoe.
Bluetooth and WiFi connections are also supported.
