Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini IP to HDMI Converter - SMPTE 2110 to HDMI Converter

Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini IP to HDMI Converter - SMPTE 2110 to HDMI Converter

BMD-CONVNVIPE/IP/HDMI

El Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini IP to HDMI is a converter designed to connect a TV, screen or computer monitor to SMPTE-2110 IP systems. Thanks to its small size, it can be conveniently mounted behind the screen and carry the decoded signal to the monitor. Compatible with SD, HD and Ultra HD signals up to 2160p60, it also has a standard 10GbE connection, compatible with any CAT6 cable. It can be powered over Ethernet (PoE) or using the DC power supply, and complies with IS-04 and IS-05 specifications, which make it easy to discover and register AV devices on the network, as well as manage their connection. Blackmagic Design has a wide range of SMPTE-2110 compliant IP video products, including PTP clocks and even NMOS support, to enable connections via a video matrix panel.

Blackmagic 2110 IP products comply with the SMPTE ST-2110 standard for IP video, which specifies the transport, synchronisation and description of 10-bit video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP networks for broadcast. It can also resynchronise SDI inputs to a common PTP clock or external equipment can be locked to the reference output which is also generated from the PTP clock. Blackmagic 2110 IP products support SMPTE-2110-20 for uncompressed video, SMPTE-2110-21 for traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE-2110-30 for audio, and SMPTE-2110-40 for ancillary data. In addition, Blackmagic 2110 IP products support multicast, which is an efficient way to distribute video, audio and data from a single source to multiple destinations.

One of the biggest problems with SMPTE-2110 is the need for an IT technician to keep the video systems up and running. The Blackmagic 2110 IP converters solve this problem because they can be connected point-to-point, or via an Ethernet switch, as appropriate. This means you can deploy a professional SMPTE-2110 IP video system by simply pulling Ethernet cable, which will function as a remote feed and bi-directional video distribution. It's just like an SDI workflow. You can connect cameras to rack converters and get all camera control, programme video, power and tally, with a single cable. Or connect an HDMI converter to a rack converter for remote monitors. It all configures automatically and just works.

With 10G Ethernet connections, the Blackmagic SMPTE-2110 IP AV products are more compact and cost-effective, and consume less power. They can also be powered remotely. However, when transmitting UHD images at a rate higher than 30 f/s, the bandwidth is not sufficient to achieve uncompressed 10-bit quality. The Blackmagic IP10 codec solves this problem, as it offers low latency, is free, and is in an open format. It also uses very few FPGA resources, ensuring that the price of SMPTE-2110 IP devices is affordable.

Point-to-point connection

Thanks to its careful design, two Blackmagic 2110 IP devices can be connected point-to-point with a simple Ethernet cable between them. The point-to-point connection is automatically configured, so there is no need to enter any settings. It's a simple cable that you plug in. With point-to-point connections, you get the perfect solution for live events, as the Ethernet cable can make connecting to the cameras extremely simple, with all control, power and video through a single cable.

Connecting via a network switch

If you are working with larger SMPTE-2110 systems, such as broadcast, you can connect all your video equipment to an Ethernet switch. In this case, simply connect everything to the Ethernet switch and then make the connections between devices by configuring the Ethernet switch. It works like a big video router, as all connections are made between the SMPTE-2110 devices. In addition, all Blackmagic 2110 IP products support the NMOS protocol. It is more complex to configure, but it is totally flexible!

NMOS protocol for creating virtual switchers

The support of these Blackmagic converters for the NMOS interface specifications allows all equipment connected to a 2110 IP network to function as one large virtual matrix. The Videohub Smart Control device provides the ability to map sources to destinations using this protocol, which describes how such equipment, such as cards, are detected and controlled on an IP network.Compliance with the IS-04 and IS-05 specifications facilitates the discovery and registration of AV devices on these networks and the management of their connection, respectively. In this way, it is possible to connect sources to destinations in the same way as via a traditional SDI switching matrix.

Professional 10 bit quality

Blackmagic 2110 IP converters support high quality images. In broadcast, 10-bit colour depth is generally used, as colours are represented four times more accurately than 8-bit signals. The captured images are a perfect copy of the original SDI source, pixel for pixel, without any loss of detail, resulting in the best possible quality. This not only prevents loss of detail, but also gives you the opportunity to achieve perfect green backgrounds and sharp titles, as well as better colour matching. The automatic resynchronisation function facilitates the transmission of a regenerated SDI signal with very low jitter to all devices in the studio.

Flexible and fail-safe power supply

With PoE power, the Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini IP to HDMI converters can be powered over the Ethernet cable in addition to DC power. By connecting to a PoE+ compliant switch, the Blackmagic Design Mini IP to HDMI converter will work even if the power cable is not connected to the mains, simplifying installation and providing a redundant or backup system in the event of a power failure.
