What does “AIO” mean and what kind of video inputs does it have?

‘AIO’ stands for “All-in-One.” This card is versatile and supports multiple types of video inputs in a single PCIe slot, including HDMI, 6G-SDI, and also analog video (composite, S-Video, and component) via an included adapter cable.

The “AIO” design makes it extremely flexible for production environments where different types of video sources are handled, from modern cameras with SDI or HDMI output to older equipment with analog connections. This eliminates the need to purchase multiple capture cards or additional signal converters.

What resolutions and video formats can I capture with this card?

The Magewell Pro Capture AIO is capable of capturing video at resolutions up to 4K DCI (4096x2160) at 30fps. It supports professional SD, HD, and 3G-SDI video standards, as well as DVI and HDMI resolutions up to 4K.

Its PCIe Gen2 x2 interface provides sufficient bandwidth to handle high-resolution video streams without compression, ensuring optimal image quality for editing, streaming, or archiving. Support for multiple standards makes it a robust tool for both modern and legacy productions.

How does video processing work and why is it said to have “ultra-low latency”?

Video processing is performed entirely by hardware through an integrated processing engine. This includes functions such as scaling, deinterlacing, and color space conversion, reducing the load on the computer's CPU to virtually zero. Latency is only 64 video lines.

By delegating processing to the card itself, the computer's processor is relieved of these tasks. This not only frees up resources for other programs (such as streaming or editing software), but also minimizes the delay between the video source and the captured signal, which is crucial for live applications such as broadcasts or event productions.

Is it compatible with my operating system and software?

The Magewell Pro Capture AIO is compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS. It uses standard programming interfaces such as DirectShow, DirectKS, V4L2, and ALSA, making it compatible with most video and streaming software on the market (OBS, vMix, Wirecast, etc.) without the need for complex proprietary drivers.

The adoption of industry standards ensures virtual “plug-and-play” compatibility with almost any professional software, eliminating compatibility issues and making integration into an existing workflow a breeze.

What professional audio and video features does the card offer?

In addition to video capabilities, the card captures embedded audio from the HDMI or SDI signal. It also supports 10-bit color processing and formats such as YUV 4:2:2, YUV 4:4:4, and RGB 4:4:4, as well as video metadata extraction such as timecode.

Support for 10-bit and 4:4:4 color spaces is essential for high-quality productions, as it preserves the color and detail of the original signal. Embedded audio capture simplifies setup by eliminating the need for an additional sound card, while timecode reading is essential for synchronizing multiple sources in post-production.

What is “SG-DMA” and why is it important?

SG-DMA (Scatter Gather Direct Memory Access) is Magewell's data transfer technology. It allows the card to move captured video data directly to system or GPU memory without going through the CPU.

This highly efficient data transfer method further reduces the load on the computer's processor, ensuring consistent performance and no frame drops even under very heavy workloads. It is a key pillar of the high performance and reliability of Magewell capture cards.
