The
Panasonic VariCam LT integrates the same sensor as the VariCam 35. The LT version integrates a MOS sensor based on a super 35mm chip developed specifically for the VarCam 35. This sensor offers
4K (4096x2160) and UHD (3840x2160) resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, wide dynamic range and cinematic depth of field. This sensor received The Hollywood Post Alliance Engineering Excellence Award 2015.
The
VariCam LT offers more than 14 steps of latitude, a very large dynamic range that ensures accurate reproduction of images as a whole. From the darkest to the brightest areas. In low-light scenes, the
VariCam LT ensures low-noise images without compromising image quality. This camera has the V-Log curve capable of creating these 14 steps.
The
VariCam LT film camera has a native dual ISO that incorporates two native ISO settings: 800 and 5000. This feature makes it possible for the
VariCam LT to achieve extraordinarily high sensitivity and maintain a
low noise level when operating at ISO 5000. The amount of noise at this ISO is virtually indistinguishable from that observed at ISO 800. This is achieved by integrating two dedicated analogue circuits into each pixel of the
VariCam LT's image sensor for each native ISO setting before gain is applied. This solution allows the camera to achieve much
higher sensitivity without adding additional noise. Normally, the gain process associated with ISO grading tends to introduce noise in digital cameras. This functionality represents a significant advance for recording low-light scenes. In particular, the ISO 5000 level enables the capture of images in natural light conditions, creating a more authentic visual environment.
The
VariCam LT incorporates V-Gamut technology, which
provides a wider colour palette compared to conventional film. In addition, V-Gamut covers the entire BT 2020 colour space. The
VariCam LT features an innovative scene file function with five positions.
VariCam-LOOK mode (V-LOOK), newly designed to produce cinematic images
without the need for colour corrections, is introduced. A new gamma curve has also been incorporated that preserves detail over a wider tonal range within the Rec 709 colour space. The V-709 gamma setting provides a tone suitable for viewing on standard monitors, while the BC-LOOK function creates images with an appearance that emulates traditional television broadcasts.
The
VariCam LT provides a function where files can be viewed in Full HD via
two 3G HD SDI outputs and one VF (BNC) output when recording at 4K resolution. The desired look can be achieved thanks to the internal colour correction and information overlay function on each output. This means the director can see how the scene has turned out without waiting for the next colour correction.
It is also possible to use this
VariCam LT as a
live and "fake live" production camera for concerts, events, TV programmes and corporate productions. For live multi-camera productions, you benefit from the greater control of the RCP, which gives you full colour correction capabilities. On the other hand, when it comes to "fake live" operators and filmmakers can benefit from 4K multi-camera capture via the internal P2 recording, with final colour grading in post-production.
The
VariCam LT allows a maximum frame rate for recordings in
4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD (3840x2160) resolution is 60p (60 fps). This feature allows capturing smooth, high-resolution images in fast-moving action scenes (action movies or sports). In
2K (2048 x 1080) and HD (1920x1080) resolution shots, it is possible to record at
240fps to generate an extreme slow motion effect. This is achieved by cropping the recording area of the image sensor to achieve a faster speed. Variable frame rates can be selected from 1 to 120fps in AVC-Intra 2K422 and from 120 to 240fps in AVC-Intra 2K-LT.
The
Cinema VariCam LT integrates a detachable IR cut filter. The user can record in IR mode to capture 4K images in dark night environments. It is also possible to use the IR filter in daylight conditions as a creative tool for a unique look. This is an important feature when doing one job or another.
