Blackmagic 2110 IP Presentation Converter - SMPTE 2110 Speaker presentation device

BMD-CONVNVIPH/PRESC

El Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter 8x12G SFP is designed for presentations and conferences, where connections for laptops, projectors and/or microphones are required, but it is preferred that one device brings them all together. It allows you to connect a computer via USB-C and carry both video and power over a single cable. There is also a 12G-SDI output and an HDMI output for projectors, with full capacity to switch between HDMI or SMPTE-2110 input signals. In addition, there is an XLR stereo input and output, and a 10GbE network port, that not only facilitates a professional network connection, optimal for IP video, but also, being PoE+, allows the device to be powered over the same cable, even when a computer is connected and receiving power over USB-C. Blackmagic Design has a wide range of SMPTE-2110 compliant IP video products.

Blackmagic 2110 IP products comply with the SMPTE ST-2110 standard for IP video, which specifies the transport, synchronisation and description of 10-bit video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP networks for broadcast. It can also resynchronise SDI inputs to a common PTP clock or external equipment can be locked to the reference output which is also generated from the PTP clock. Blackmagic 2110 IP products support SMPTE-2110-20 for uncompressed video, SMPTE-2110-21 for traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE-2110-30 for audio, and SMPTE-2110-40 for ancillary data. In addition, Blackmagic 2110 IP products support multicast, which is an efficient way to distribute video, audio and data from a single source to multiple destinations.

There is no longer a need for an IT technician to keep IP video systems up and running. The Blackmagic 2110 IP converters solve this problem because they can be connected point-to-point, or via a switch, as appropriate. This means you can deploy a professional SMPTE-2110 IP video system easily, achieving professional two-way video distribution almost automatically. It's just like an SDI workflow. You can connect cameras to rack converters and get all camera control, programme video, power and tally with a single connection. Everything is set up automatically and just works.

With 10G Ethernet connections, the Blackmagic SMPTE-2110 IP AV products are more compact and cost-effective, and consume less power. They can also be powered remotely. However, when transmitting UHD images faster than 30 fps, the bandwidth is not sufficient to achieve uncompressed 10-bit quality. The Blackmagic IP10 codec solves this problem, as it offers low latency, is free, and is in an open format. It also uses very few FPGA resources, ensuring that the price of SMPTE-2110 IP devices is affordable.

Point-to-point connection

Thanks to its careful design, two Blackmagic 2110 IP devices can be connected point-to-point with a simple Ethernet cable. The point-to-point connection is automatically configured, so there is no need to enter any settings. It's a simple cable that plugs in. With point-to-point connections, you get the perfect solution for live events, as the SMPT-2110 carries control data, audio, video and other metadata via multiple synchronised streams over a single network connection.

Connection via a network switch

If you are working with larger SMPTE-2110 systems, such as a broadcast installation, you can connect all your video equipment to an Ethernet switch. In this case, you simply connect everything to the Ethernet switch and then make the connections between devices by configuring the Ethernet switch. It works like a big video router, as all connections are made between the SMPTE-2110 devices. In addition, all Blackmagic 2110 IP products support the NMOS protocol. It's more complex to configure, but it's totally flexible!

NMOS protocol for creating virtual switchers

The support of these Blackmagic converters for the NMOS interface specifications allows all equipment connected to a 2110 IP network to function as one large virtual matrix. The Videohub Smart Control device provides the ability to map sources to destinations using this protocol, which describes how such equipment is detected and controlled on an IP network. Compliance with the IS-04 and IS-05 specifications facilitates the discovery and registration of AV devices on these networks and the management of their connection, respectively. In this way, it is possible to connect sources to destinations in the same way as via a traditional SDI switching matrix.

Professional 10 bit quality

Blackmagic 2110 IP converters support high quality images. In broadcast, 10-bit colour depth is generally used, as colours are represented four times more accurately than 8-bit signals. The captured images are a perfect copy of the original SDI source, pixel for pixel, without any loss of detail, resulting in the best possible quality. This not only prevents loss of detail, but also gives you the opportunity to achieve perfect green backgrounds and sharp titles, as well as better colour matching. The automatic re-sync function makes it easy to transmit a regenerated SDI signal, with very low jitter, to all devices in the studio.
