The Sonnet Solo 10G external network card is equipped with a 10GbE RJ45 interface, which allows a computer to be connected to a 10Gb Ethernet infrastructure using CAT6 cable for distances up to 55 meters, or CAT 6A up to 100 meters. Features such as flow control, 64-bit address support, and stateless downloads enable the Sonnet Solo 10G to achieve high performance with low CPU consumption. This device supports the NBASE-T standard for Multi-Gigabit link speeds (2.5Gb/5Gb) over CAT 5e or higher cabling, allowing this card to be installed for different users with different Ethernet cabling infrastructures. Compatible with macOS, Windows and Linux, the Solo 10G card has support for AVB (IEEE 802.1Qav), which regulates forwarding and queuing in synchronization-critical flows such as professional IP audio and video.
With recent advances in technology, plus increasingly affordable gear, the transition to capturing and outputing content at 4K and higher resolutions has happened fast - the need for faster than Gigabit Ethernet speeds to tranfer all that data has accelerated equally fast. For Post-production shared storage workgroups and other bandwidth-intensive workflows, 10Gb Ethernet is the new data transfer standard. Speeding its adoption, very affordable 10Gb Ethernet switches with RJ45 have significally reduced the cost of setting up 10GbE infrastructure, but the price of adding client connectivity has remained a barrier for some.
Sonnet's Solo 10G external network card is presented as the affordable alternative for desktops and workstations to incorporate a 10G Ethernet port. This powerful and simple solution adds ultra-fast 10GBASE-T 10GbE network connectivity to Mac, Windows and Linux computers. Installing it is as simple as connecting the Solo10G adapter to the computer via the Thunderbolt port and to the network switch (or directly to 10GbE-enabled storage) via the Ethernet port. Then just configure the adapter settings via the macOS network control panel, Windows Device Manager or Linux command line (or graphical utility).
In addition, the Sonnet Solo 10G supports AVB or Audio Video Bridging (IEEE 802.1Qav, AVB) making it the perfect card for use in professional Internet audio and video applications where synchronization of data streams is critical. Solo10G can be carried in your pocket - it measures only 8 cm wide by 12 cm deep and 3 cm high - and is bus-powered to enable truly portable use without the need for a power adapter. Fitted with a robust aluminum housing, its cool operation allows it to integrate no fan, enabling quiet and energy-efficient operation.
As a network device, the Sonnet Solo10G was designed with essential security features. By incorporating hardware encryption, the Sonnet adapter is protected against malicious modification of its firmware. Any unauthorized attempt to modify the firmware to facilitate unauthorized access to the computer would render the adapter unusable. This secure design prevents the Solo10G adapter's firmware from being reprogrammed, except by a manufacturer's update using a secure encryption key.
