High Definition Camera Monitoring and Control
The 1500 nits main display is especially useful in bright conditions, allowing users to see the image clearly regardless of external conditions, and an optional anti-glare visor can be attached. In addition, the camera displays vital information such as unit status, shooting data, histogram, framing guides and other relevant data directly on the image in real time.
For focusing professionals, the URSA Cine model includes a special mode that makes it easy to achieve precise focus, a critical feature for producing very high quality content.
Reliable and standard connections
The camera's main power supply via an 8-pin Lemo connection ensures a constant and reliable 24V power supply, while the additional 2-pin 12V connection at the rear allows the integration of accessories working at a lower voltage, contributing to a more efficient and tidy system design, avoiding cable clutter.
The 12G-SDI outputs are essential for real-time image quality monitoring, allowing users to connect two different monitors and customize the information overlaid on each according to specific production needs. This is particularly useful in environments where multiple team members need access to different types of monitoring information simultaneously.
Finally, the 10G Ethernet port is a valuable feature for file management, especially with Blackmagic Cloud integration, enabling fast and efficient file synchronization and transfer. This is crucial in modern production, where speed and efficiency in data transfer can have a significant impact on the overall workflow.
The combination of Lemo and Fischer connectors, along with versatile power options and advanced monitoring and synchronization capabilities, make the unit a comprehensive solution for the demands of contemporary audiovisual production. These technical features not only improve workflow efficiency, but also ensure recording integrity and production quality.
Blackmagic RAW capture
5th Generation Colorimetry
BRAW image processing is another highlight, as it maintains the integrity of color and dynamic range metadata. This is crucial for post-production, where color detail and tonal gradation are essential for visual storytelling. In addition, backwards compatibility with previous Blackmagic RAW files ensures that older projects can benefit from improvements in color reproduction.
In specialized forums, users have discussed the differences between Blackmagic's fourth and fifth generation colorimetry, highlighting Gen 5's ability to better handle saturated LED lights and offer a flatter curve, which can be advantageous in certain lighting conditions. It is also mentioned that while the Gen 4 curve already captured the full dynamic range that P4K/6K sensors can offer, Gen 5 introduces more aggressive handling of saturated colors, which may be preferable for some cinematographers.
Integrated optical filters
The Blackmagic URSA Cine's built-in Neutral Density Filters are a key component of this camera, allowing users to control image exposure without affecting color or contrast. With 2-, 4- and 6-step options, these filters offer the flexibility to work in a variety of lighting conditions while maintaining color integrity thanks to a design that matches the camera's colorimetry. In addition, the ability to uniformly filter both the visible spectrum and infrared wavelengths helps prevent infrared contamination, resulting in clearer, more accurate images. The fast and precise adjustment mechanism, along with clear on-screen display of settings, facilitates operation in dynamic shooting environments, ensuring that filmmakers can quickly adapt to changes in light and capture the perfect shot.
Full resolution at high frame rates

What is the sensor size and what advantages does 12K Full Frame offer?
The Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF features a Full Frame sensor (36 x 24 mm) with a native resolution of 12,288 x 8,040 pixels. The main advantage of this resolution and size is flexibility. It allows filmmakers to reframe shots in post-production to create multiple high-quality frames (such as 8K or 4K) from a single shot, or even extract 80-megapixel still images. In addition, downsampling from 12K to lower resolutions such as 4K produces extraordinarily clean and detailed image quality, surpassing that of cameras that record directly in 4K.
What is the workflow like with 12K files and the Blackmagic RAW codec?
The URSA Cine 12K LF records exclusively in Blackmagic RAW, a proprietary codec that is exceptionally efficient. Unlike other RAW formats, Blackmagic RAW does not require a high-end PC, as its processing is optimized and much of the decompression is handled by the system's GPU. In addition, Blackmagic RAW allows you to adjust compression as needed (e.g., Constant Quality or Constant Bitrate), offering an excellent balance between quality and file size. The workflow with DaVinci Resolve Studio (included with the camera) is seamlessly integrated for smooth performance even at such high resolutions.
What storage options does the camera have and how do they work?
The URSA Cine 12K LF features an integrated 8TB storage module called the Blackmagic Media Module, designed for high-speed, long-duration recording. This module is removable and connects directly to a Blackmagic Media Dock for high-speed transfers (10G Ethernet), simplifying the data dump process. In addition, the camera supports CFexpress Type B cards via the optional CFexpress module. This duality gives filmmakers great flexibility to choose between a high-capacity integrated solution or a universally accepted card format.
What frame rates (fps) can the camera achieve at different resolutions?
The URSA Cine 12K LF offers impressive frame rates, varying depending on the recording resolution:
In 12K: up to 90 fps in 12K DCI.
In 8K: up to 170 fps in 8K DCI.
In 4K: up to 240 fps in 4K DCI (by downsampling the 12K sensor).
These high frame rates allow you to create slow-motion effects with amazing fluidity and detail, even when capturing the full resolution of the sensor.
What lens mounts does the camera use and how can they be changed?
Yes, the URSA Cine 12K LF is extremely versatile in this regard. The camera comes standard with a PL mount installed and EF mount removed, and is also compatible with optional Hasselblad and LPL mounts. Changing mounts is a simple process that is done on the camera body itself, allowing users to take advantage of a wide range of cinema and photographic lenses without the need for complex external adapters.
