Hollywood image quality
Blackmagic PYXIS cameras offer the professional tools required for feature films, TV shows, and documentaries, while also delivering cinematic content for social media and platforms like YouTube. It provides the same high-end features found in more expensive digital cinema cameras, capturing vibrant colors, greater detail, and a wider dynamic range. This is why feature films have such incredible aesthetics, and it is now possible to achieve them in any type of project, even low-budget independent films, TV commercials or corporate audiovisual materials.
Large Digital Cinema Sensor
The PYXIS 12K features a full-frame sensor with a resolution of 12,288 x 8040. It enables shooting with a shallow depth of field or using anamorphic lenses across the full sensor area for a true cinematic feel. With a dynamic range of 16 stops and dual native ISO (200 and 3200), it delivers stunning low-noise images in both bright daylight and near darkness.
Format Flexibility
The full-frame sensor supports a wide range of cinematic formats and aspect ratios without sacrificing image quality. Utilizing the entire sensor captures a 3:2 aspect ratio, providing flexibility for reframing in post-production. When using the Super 35 area, you get a tighter shot that blends seamlessly with full-frame footage, ideal for creating standout cinematic visuals with exceptional quality.
Three exceptional models
The three PYXIS versions available allow the widest range of L, EF or PL lenses to be used for cinematography or photography.
The L-mount version allows the use of the latest full-frame models from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma, while offering compatibility with a wide range of new and classic lenses through the use of adapters.
The EF-mount version supports photographic lenses from DSLRs or even Pocket Cinema Camera models, while the PL version offers the ability to work with professional lenses from manufacturers such as Zeiss, ARRI and Cooke without the need for an adapter. With the Blackmagic PYXIS model, there are no limits to the creative possibilities.
Amazing images with high dynamic range
Dynamic range is the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of an image, measured in stops. The Blackmagic PYXIS delivers 16 stops of dynamic range, preserving more detail in highlights and shadows than typical video cameras. This allows you to expose an indoor café scene and still see outside through the window. It also supports a wider color gamut than the DCI-P3 color space used in cinema. Paired with DaVinci Resolve Studio (included), it offers full creative freedom with tools to fine-tune exposure and recover detail during color grading.
Exceptional Low Light Performance
In digital cinema, ISO measures the sensor’s light sensitivity. A higher ISO means more sensitivity, ideal for shooting with natural or low light. The PYXIS 12K supports ISO settings from 200 to 3200, with 800 as the optimal base ISO. This minimizes noise while maintaining the sensor’s dynamic range, ensuring clean, detailed images in low-light environments.
Multiple resolutions and frame rates
The PYXIS 12K features an adaptive sensor that supports 12K, 8K, and 4K capture across the full sensor area. It supports up to 40 fps at 12,288 x 8040 (3:2), 60 fps at 12,288 x 5112 (2.4:1), and 112 fps at 8192 x 3408 in 8K. You can even shoot in anamorphic 6:5 format at an ultra-high 9.6K resolution (9648 x 8040) with compatible lenses.
4-inch LCD monitor
The 4-inch touchscreen LCD on the PYXIS provides essential shooting data and is ideal for on-set monitoring, even with HDR footage. Its resolution allows for precise framing and focusing without the need for bulky external monitors. With 1500 nits of brightness, it's easy to view and adjust settings even under direct sunlight. The screen displays camera and recording status, histograms, audio levels, framing guides, and more. It also supports fast application of 3D LUTs to preview the desired look.
All controls at your fingertips
The PYXIS has a thoughtfully designed layout that makes essential functions like ISO, white balance, and shutter speed easily accessible. A small control dial enables quick adjustments, and three customizable buttons offer fast access to key features. Record and still photo buttons are strategically placed for easy operation. Dedicated controls for high frame rates, focus, and false color are also included, with lockable buttons to prevent accidental changes during shooting or when the camera is mounted.
Mounting options with side mounts
The innovative PYXIS side mounts provide greater flexibility in adapting the camera to different jobs. The included bracket is made from the same aircraft-grade aluminum as the frame and features two 6.35mm (1/4") and one 9.50mm (3/8") threaded holes for adding microphones and other accessories. This model also comes with an SSD mount that provides a secure place to mount USB-C drives or even cell phones for live streaming over the Internet. The optional rosette has five 6.35mm and four 9.50mm threaded holes to facilitate the use of additional accessories, as well as a mounting point for adding handles or outriggers.
Capture to CFexpress cards or external drives
PYXIS models include a USB-C expansion port for direct recording to external flash drives or SSDs, plus dual CFexpress card slots. CFexpress cards are more durable and faster than older media, making them ideal for high-res 12-bit Blackmagic RAW recording. You can shoot for over an hour in 6K on a single 256GB card. Hot-swappable slots allow you to keep recording without interruption, and CFexpress cards can be quickly transferred to a computer for editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
Blackmagic Operating System
The advanced Blackmagic OS is intuitive and responsive. It features a modern structure with independently operating camera functions and powers up instantly. It shares the same interface as other Blackmagic cameras, making it easy to switch between models. You can tap or swipe the screen to adjust settings, add metadata, or check recording status. The OS also manages focus tools, exposure, LUTs, dynamic range, metadata, timecode, and RAW settings.

5th Generation Colorimetry
Featuring the same 5th Generation Colorimetry as the URSA Cine, this camera delivers enhanced image quality with incredibly accurate skin tones and true colors in every shot. In addition, its innovative 12-bit dynamic tone curve allows more information to be captured in highlights and shadows. Colorimetry performs some of the complex processing of Blackmagic RAW images, so the metadata preserves the color and dynamic range information captured by the sensor for use in post-production. This results in a natural, cinematic look when making color adjustments in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
4G or 5G cellular connection
When uploading files to Blackmagic Cloud, it is possible to use an iPhone or Android phone to connect to the internet using mobile data through the camera's USB-C port. This feature supports 4G or 5G phones, and it is also possible to connect to an Ethernet network. This allows images to be transferred as soon as they are captured, so the production team can get to work immediately from anywhere in the world. Color grading can also be done from a color grading room and the footage can be synchronized with DaVinci Resolve. The result is a global post-production solution that is compatible with the Blackmagic Cloud and helps build exceptional creative teams.
Compatibility with URSA Cine Viewfinders and other accessories
Blackmagic PYXIS allows you to connect an optional electronic viewfinder to facilitate both location and handheld shooting. This accessory includes a high quality 1920x1080 resolution OLED display, a built-in proximity sensor and a four element glass diopter with wide focus adjustment for greater precision. It also features a digital setting chart that allows you to configure the unit for optimum performance. In addition, the display allows you to view critical information such as framing guides. Adding the viewfinder to the camera is extremely easy as it attaches to the included extension arm and connects to the unit via a USB-C cable. It can be positioned in a variety of ways and has two types of eyepieces.

Professional Connections
The Blackmagic PYXIS offers a wide variety of connections for audio devices, monitors and power supplies. For example, it includes a 12G SDI output, which transmits UHD images with wide dynamic range and also allows you to connect monitors to monitor recorded material and view critical camera data. The SDI connections provide the possibility of using longer cables, facilitating the use of units that are further away. In addition, this model has a 48V mini-XLR connection, with phantom power mode for microphones and a 3.5mm input for camcorder-like versions, as well as inputs for timecode and reference signals, a headphone port and a DC power connector with locking mechanism.
Built-in microphones and professional audio inputs
Thanks to the ability to record high-fidelity audio with this camera, there is no need for additional recorders. The Blackmagic PYXIS has a 48V mini-XLR input with phantom power mode that allows different types of microphones to be connected. The built-in microphones have an extremely low noise floor and are resistant to shock and wind, providing the opportunity to capture both sound and reference tracks with exceptional clarity during filming. Also included is a 3.5 mm audio input for camcorder-like microphones, a headphone input and a speaker. These connections allow two independent audio tracks to be recorded via the microphones, without the need for external mixing consoles.
Live streaming via SRT and RTMP protocols
It is now possible to broadcast live from the location. The Blackmagic PYXIS model has a built-in streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT protocols, allowing you to stream to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and X. There are two ways to access the Internet: via an Ethernet adapter or by connecting a 4G or 5G phone to use mobile data. The camera's viewfinder and display show the connection status and transfer rate. The signal can also be sent to a Blackmagic ATEM Streaming Bridge for a wireless connection to the studio. This H.264 decoder allows an SDI signal to be output again. This keeps the entire production team up to date on what's happening during the shoot.
