The BirdDog outdoor PTZ camera is the ideal solution for capturing high-quality images in any outdoor environment. With its rugged design and cutting-edge features, this camera is ready to perform at its best in the most demanding projects.

A design that can withstand any weather

The O4 camera is built to withstand the most extreme conditions. Its cast aluminum body is IP66 certified, protecting it from dust and water. It also operates in a wide temperature range, from -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F). No matter if it's raining, snowing, or scorching hot, the O4 is always ready for action. For added protection, it includes a built-in heater that prevents condensation and lens fogging, ensuring a clear image at all times.

Unmatched image quality and performance

Capture crisp, color-accurate videos in 4K at 60fps thanks to its large 1/1.8" 8.4MP SONY CMOS sensor. This sensor, coupled with multi-exposure HDR technology, offers detailed control over color, gamma, and dynamic range, allowing you to match the style of high-end production cameras. Its 30x optical zoom lens (60x in HD) allows you to capture subjects at a great distance without losing quality.

At night, the O4 doesn't slow down. A powerful infrared laser emitter with a range of up to 500 meters and an automatic black and white mode ensure exceptional visibility in low or no light conditions.

Simple and flexible installation

Unlike other outdoor PTZ cameras that complicate installation, BirdDog's O4 has been designed with user convenience in mind. All I/O connections are hidden in a sealed, weatherproof bottom compartment. With three tabs and a strain relief system, cables are protected and organized.

In addition, the O4 supports PoE++ (Power over Ethernet), simplifying installation by requiring a single cable for both power and data transmission. You can also use an external DC power supply if you prefer.

Maximum versatility in any workflow

The O4 adapts to almost any production setup. It supports simultaneous streaming in Full-NDI and NDI|HX3, and can also transmit NDI alongside protocols such as SRT, RTMP, or RTSP. With native 12G-SDI, HDMI, and SFP+ fiber connections, it integrates seamlessly into IP-based, hybrid, or traditional workflows.

To keep the action in frame at all times, the camera features a state-of-the-art AI tracking system. Its motion profiles are fully adjustable, allowing for fast tracking for sports or smoother, more cinematic tracking for events and ceremonies.

High-quality hydrophobic glass

The BirdDog O4 lens is made from aircraft-grade hydrophobic glass that repels water, dust, and dirt. This technology ensures that the optics always remain clean without the need for moving parts, eliminating smudges and streaks. The result is reliable performance and consistent visibility in any season, without the need for additional maintenance.

Total control and connectivity

The O4 offers multiple control and connectivity options to suit your workflow. You can manage it remotely through a wide range of protocols, including Visca, NDI, and RS-485. This allows you to easily integrate the camera into your production system, whether with hardware or software controllers.

For professional live production, the O4 integrates a Halo Tally system that visually indicates the status of the camera. The front Tally light illuminates red when the camera is on-air and green when it is in preview mode. This feature is essential for operators and talent to know at all times which camera is being used.

What environmental and resistance certifications does the camera have?

The BirdDog O4 is IP66 certified, meaning it is fully protected against dust and powerful water jets from any direction. Its housing is made of die-cast aluminum and includes a built-in heater and hydrophobic and anti-smudge coatings on the lens. This allows it to operate reliably in an extremely wide temperature range, from -40°C to +60°C, without fogging the lens.

What type of image sensor does it use and how does it perform in low light conditions?

The camera features a 1/1.8" Sony CMOS sensor with a total of 8.4 effective megapixels. This large sensor, combined with its ability to capture 4K video at 60p and support for HDR (High Dynamic Range), ensures superior performance in low-light environments. In addition, its infrared laser night vision illuminates scenes up to 500 meters away, allowing for clear capture even in total darkness, automatically switching to monochrome mode.

What video connectivity and control options does it offer?

The BirdDog O4 is extremely versatile in its connectivity. It offers 12G-SDI and HDMI video outputs, allowing integration into traditional workflows. For IP transmission, it supports NDI® and NDI® HX3 protocols, as well as RTSP, RTMP, and SRT, making it compatible with almost any modern production network. In addition, it features an SFP+ port for fiber optics, ideal for long-distance, low-latency transmission, and an RJ-45 port for networking, which supports PoE++ for single-cable installation (power and data).

What is the camera's zoom capability and how does it perform at different resolutions?

The camera is equipped with a 30x optical zoom that works perfectly in 4K resolution. For HD resolutions, the zoom capability effectively doubles to 60x, allowing for even greater magnification without image degradation. Additionally, it features an 8x digital zoom for greater framing flexibility.

What PTZ control protocols does the BirdDog O4 support?

The camera supports multiple protocols for controlling pan, tilt, and zoom functions. The most notable are NDI, VISCA-IP, and its RESTful API, making it compatible with most PTZ controllers on the market, including BirdDog's own brand and other third-party systems such as Crestron or Q-Sys. It also features AI Auto Tracking with adjustable motion profiles.

How is the camera powered?

The O4 can be powered in two ways:

Via PoE++ (Power over Ethernet Plus Plus) using a single RJ-45 Ethernet network cable, which simplifies installation by eliminating the need for an additional power cable.

Via an external 24V DC power supply, for setups where a compatible PoE++ switch or injector is not available.

What is the bandwidth required for Full NDI and NDI HX3 transmission?

For NDI Full Bandwidth (High Bandwidth) transmission, the camera generates a high-quality video stream with I-frame compression, which requires considerable bandwidth, typically above 120Mbps for 4K at 60p.

For NDI HX3, the bandwidth is significantly lower and more efficient, typically in the range of 10-20Mbps, allowing for high-quality transmission on networks with lower capacity.
