The ultimate digital cinema capture card featuring two full frame DCI 4K inputs and outputs via 12G-SDI! You get dual link multi rate 12G-SDI connections that work with SD, HD and Ultra HD even in Ultra HD 60p, as well as full frame DCI 4K at 4096x2160 resolution up to 25p!

Capture 10-bit YUV or full color bandwidth 12-bit RGB. Includes AES/EBU audio, up, down and cross conversion, plus built in 3D stereoscopic output at full bandwidth 4:4:4:4 RGB! No other capture and playback card supports more video formats and video connections!

Note: It is important to take into account that the capture unit only allows the use of one type of input and one type of output at a time, either SDI, HDMI or SFP, not being possible to use them simultaneously. In addition, the two SDI inputs are not designed to receive independent signals, but work together with the same signal, allowing one channel to be used as Fill (main signal / Channel A) and the other as Key (alpha channel / Channel B). The same is true for the SDI outputs, where it is only possible to output one main signal and its corresponding alpha channel, not two different signals independently.

Frequently Asked Technical Questions (FAQ) - Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G

1.- What is the maximum video resolution and frame rate supported by the DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G?
The card is compatible with SD, HD, Ultra HD (UHD), and DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) formats at a maximum frame rate of up to 60p. This is achieved through its 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0b connections, making it suitable for high-end digital cinema workflows.

2.- What types of SDI connections does it include, and what is their main advantage?
It features two bidirectional 12G-SDI inputs and two outputs, plus an HDMI 2.0b port. The main advantage of 12G-SDI is that it can transmit Ultra HD or 4K signals at 60p using a single BNC cable, while maintaining compatibility with SD, HD, 3G, and 6G-SDI equipment.

3.- What color precision and color sampling does the card offer?
It offers superior cinematic image quality. It supports capture and playback in 10-bit YUV 4:2:2 and, most importantly, 12-bit RGB 4:4:4. The latter is crucial for professional color correction and visual effects, offering maximum color fidelity.

4.- Is it compatible with HDR (High Dynamic Range) workflows?
Yes. The DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G is fully compatible with HDR technology, specifically supporting the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) curve and other formats compliant with the Rec. 2020 standard. This is essential for mastering and playing back high dynamic range content.

5.- What computer interface type does the card use, and why is it important?
The card uses a PCI Express x8 3rd Generation interface. This high bus speed is necessary to handle the enormous bandwidth required for capturing and playing back 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 DCI 4K video at 60 frames per second either uncompressed or with light compression.

6.- What support does it offer for professional audio?
The unit features embedded audio in its SDI (up to 16 channels) and HDMI (up to 8 channels) connections. Additionally, it includes dedicated AES/EBU inputs and outputs for high-quality digital audio, and XLR connectors for two channels of balanced analog audio.

7.- Can it handle stereoscopic 3D video workflows?
Yes, it supports Dual Link stereoscopic 3D capture and playback. This means it can handle two separate video streams (left eye and right eye) simultaneously, enabling advanced post-production of three-dimensional content.

8.- What are the card's format conversion capabilities?
The DeckLink performs hardware-assisted, real-time conversions, including up, down, and cross-conversion. This allows, for example, playing back a 4K project on an HD monitor or capturing an HD signal while working on a 4K project.

9.- Is it compatible with both compressed and uncompressed video codecs?
Absolutely. It supports capture and playback of 10-bit and 12-bit uncompressed video, as well as major broadcast codecs like Apple ProRes (all variants), Avid DNxHD/DNxHR, and other professional codecs (DPX, DVCPRO HD, etc.), ensuring maximum flexibility in post-production.

10.- How is external device control (decks) managed?
For integration with professional broadcast VTRs and decks, the card includes an RS-422 control port compatible with Sony products. This enables precise transport control for tape capture or insertion of edits.
