The Canon EOS C70 digital cinema camera has a new design that includes a multi-function grip with 3 customizable dials and a multi-directional joystick control lever. It features a Super 35mm DGO (Dual Gain Output) sensor for low 4K noise with high dynamic range shooting capability up to 16 steps of latitude for enhanced HDR recording. The RF mount offers compatibility not only with Canon's wide range of DSLR lenses, but also with any EF-mount cine lenses (including cinema lenses) and zooms. This digital cinema camera features a newly developed ultra-thin ND filter unit that is optimized for the shorter recording distance of the RF mount. This system is electronically controlled with 2/4/6-stop compatible filters, plus if needed it can be extended to 8/10, so it allows you to create an image with shallow depth of field in very bright conditions.
The Canon EOS C70 has a DGO sensor that is paired with the Canon DIGIC DV7 image processor, which uses the RAW information from the sensor and processes it for various applications, such as high frame rate recording, RAW recording, HDR-PQ output, electronic image stabilization (EIS) in addition to the body's own 5-axis stabilization or proxy recording.
The sensor of this Canon EOS C70 offers an effective sensor screen size of 26.2x13.8mm when the option is 4096x2160 or 2048x1080 and reduces to 24.6x13.8m when the resolution option goes to 3840x2160 or 2160x1080. This film camera has an ISO sensitivity from 200 to 25600 which will allow recording in low light conditions and even if combined with a bright lens shooting without external illumination would be possible.
This digital cinema camera records to SD/SDHC UHS II cards (recommended) where simultaneous or uninterrupted recording is allowed for greater flexibility in production, and one of the slots can be used to record additional images. High frame rates of 120fps can be recorded in 4K RAW and even in Super16 mode it is possible to work at 180fps in 2K. Cinema RAW Light, XF-AVC and MP4 H.265/HEVC recording formats are supported for its Super 35mm sensor, providing 10-bit 4:2:2 codec imaging in XF-AVC or 12-bit in RAW. For MP4 capture it is 10-bit 4:2:2 or 8-bit 4:2:0.
To make post-production work even more flexible, this digital cinema camera also offers Canon's Log 2 and Log 3 gamma modes, which result in excellent tonal reproduction in the highlight and low-light regions of the image, and an extended dynamic range. Its color matrix for reproduction gives video production use equivalent to the EOS C300 and C500. Compatibility with Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF (autofocus) provides accurate, face-priority autofocusing and a face-only and tracking option. So the versatility of focus is enormous.
The Canon EOS C70 has an HDMI (type A) connector (output only) and also a USB type C connector for GPS unit, WiFi or optional Ethernet adapters. It does allow IP transmission via an ethernet adapter and a decoder transmission device. It has 2 x 3-pin XLR mini connectors, a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug and microphones built into the body. The 3.5" touch screen LCD unit features a new intuitive control interface, just touch the items you want and slide your finger to adjust them.
This digital cinema camera also enables vertical shooting with the side holes on the body. In addition, it also supports anamorphic lenses by stretching the image on the screen and HDMI output. The Canon EOS C70 can use 1.3x and 2x anamorphic lenses.
The Canon EOS C70 provides a shutter speed from 1s to 1/2000s depending on the frames per second and shutter control mode selected (39 options). Also its shutter angle will vary depending on the selected fps from 11.25º to 360º.
