Blackmagic Design Teranex AV processors enable a multitude of conversions at the quality demanded by broadcasters around the world. Featuring a wide variety of professional and home connections, they enable low latency content processing. These devices offer the possibility to process all kinds of standards, with different definition or frame rate, as well as to correct the cadence, inserting or dropping frames as needed. Thanks to unique algorithms, exceptional 10-bit quality results are achieved. It should also be noted that the converted material includes audio, subtitles (CC) and timecode.

Teranex AV processors allow a huge amount of real time conversion, so you can be ready for any kind of content at any time. Not only can you convert sources from overseas, but you can also connect these devices to older broadcast equipment to ensure they always receive the correct signal, or install them in mobile units to process all kinds of audio-visual material. Teranex AV converters give you the ability to instantly output high definition images for projection onto large LED screens or digital signage at concerts and sporting events.

1089 types of conversions

Teranex AV can perform 1089 types of format conversions in a variety of resolutions, with such extraordinary quality that it is impossible to distinguish the resulting images from the original. They also provide the ability to detect the cadence and modify it as required, or make optical adjustments, among other features. The converted material preserves timecode and other ancillary data, such as subtitles (CC), and includes 16 channels of audio, with an adjustable delay of up to 1 second. Frames are always perfectly synchronised, so content can be edited or streamed immediately.

Advanced HDMI processing

The Blackmagic Teranex AV features an HDMI input with loop through for greater flexibility during live events. This allows SDI signals to be output without the need for external adapters or additional equipment. Regardless of the initial format, it is possible to transmit the content to a projector via an HDMI connection and at the same time perform a conversion to transfer the material to other devices such as recorders or monitors. The user even has the option of embedding the audio received via the AES and RCA inputs into the output signal.

Conversion and transmission of signals in milliseconds

Teranex AV is ideal for all types of live production. With a latency of just 67ms, it can be used during concerts and other events to transmit camera feeds to giant screens located throughout the venue. This ensures perfect synchronisation with what is happening on stage.

Logo storage

The image storage function of the Teranex AV model offers the possibility to capture a frame and keep it in the internal memory, even when the device is switched off. This can be saved in any appropriate resolution, depending on the required parameters. This makes the converter ideal for storing corporate logos for later use during presentations, conferences, concerts and other events. Thanks to the device's outstanding resynchronisation, the transition between this image and the live signal is always seamless.

Image freeze

The Teranex AV model allows you to keep a particular frame on the screen until you select another output, a logo or a black image. This makes it ideal for conferences and other events where certain changes need to be made without being noticed by the audience. For example, the image can be frozen while the presenter makes the necessary changes. This is an exceptional tool that allows you to always have something at hand to show on the screen before continuing with the broadcast.

Stunning sharpness and detail

Teranex converters use advanced algorithms that allow millions of pixels to be processed simultaneously, both in the X/Y positions and between frames, so that extraordinary visual effects can be generated using a computer. In addition, these devices offer the possibility to process 10-bit content, de-interlace the audiovisual material and adjust the image size with optical quality. This results in a surprisingly high level of sharpness and detail.

Optical image adjustment and sub-pixel processing

The Teranex AV can convert between a variety of formats, upscaling or downscaling the definition of AV material as required. They also offer a wide range of aspect ratios, plus innovative visual optimisation algorithms that simulate the functions of an optical zoom. Furthermore, sub-pixel processing and multi-directional diagonal filters allow for easy removal of image irregularities. This results in extremely sharp content that retains the detail and clarity of the original.

State-of-the-art connections

Teranex AV features 12G SDI and HDMI 2.0a inputs, loop through outputs and reference connections. It also has XLR and RCA connectors for professional or consumer audio equipment, providing 4 AES/EBU channels or 2 balanced analogue channels. This makes it ideal for presenters using lavalier microphones or portable computer equipment, as the audio can be integrated into the signal. The device also includes a compartment for adding fibre optic modules to cover greater distances when transmitting audio-visual content.
