Redesigned touchscreen

The new 7-inch SuperAtom IPS touchscreen, visible in daylight and highly responsive, is perfect for outdoor use, even in direct sunlight. It has all the controls you need to make adjustments to make Shogun CONNECT work just as well in darker environments.

Compact and versatile

From private individuals to large-scale film productions, the Shogun CONNECT is built to fit any video o cinema camera rig. It features a versatile mount, which can adapt to a variety of industry-standard equipment from a wide range of manufacturers. Once fixed in place, the mount is very secure and offers anti-rotation adjustments, so you can be confident that your Shogun CONNECT will stay in place at all times.

Complete monitoring toolbox

The Shogun CONNECT offers a full range of monitoring tools, including a waveform, focus peaking, false colour and framing guides, to help you get the composition and exposure just right. The AtomOS software is easy to use and provides full control over your images to adjust exposure, framing or focus.

Ready for the future

The Atomos Shogun CONNECT is based on the latest ATOMOS processor, the AtomIC3. The processor provides all the performance needed to meet the demands of the latest cameras. It can handle higher frame rates and higher resolutions.

The device currently supports RAW output from multiple cameras up to 4K at 120fps via HDMI or SDI, with 8K ProRes RAW recording at up to 30fps exclusive to selected cameras.

Wireless remote control

The AtomRemote app for iOS and macOS, developed by Atomos, provides external controls for the Shogun CONNECT. The app allows a range of configuration tasks and operations to be performed at a distance of up to 15 metres from the device, via Bluetooth LE. Input options include the ability to define camera connections, select Gamma/EOTF and adjust Gamut settings. On the monitoring side, AtomRemote can be used to control playback, choose monitoring modes, apply custom 3D LUTs or view image analysis tools such as exposure and focus. Output controls include 4K to HD options, LUT preview and HDR output.

Wireless time code

Atomos AirGlu™ adds wireless timecode, sync and control technology to Shogun CONNECT. AirGlu synchronises multiple Atomos devices or compatible cameras, audio recorders and software applications to share the same frame-accurate timecode. It is also capable of transmitting recording, battery status and disk capacity information to the server unit. Any AirGlu device can act as a server unit, which means you no longer need a big budget or to engage in lengthy post-production workflows to produce perfectly synchronised multi-camera video.

Supported resolutions and frame rates

To save space and allow longer recordings, many cameras record 8-bit 4:2:0 compressed video internally. If the camera is capable of sending video over HDMI, the quality can often be preserved in an 8-bit or 10-bit 4:2:2 format. The Shogun CONNECT can record more colour information and immediately add value to your production with your existing camera equipment. In addition, if you are recording Log material, the ability to avoid internal compression will give you the best possible dynamic range.

The Shogun CONNECT is designed to maximise the quality of your video and allow you to expand all aspects of your creative vision. The Shogun CONNECT also includes 12G-SDI input, the standard on high-end cinema cameras, including the Sony FX series, Panasonic EVA1 and Canon EOS C series. The robustness and usability of SDI is critical for productions that rely on it. SDI RAW provides the ultimate experience in terms of flexibility and quality, making Shogun CONNECT the ideal choice for big budget filmmakers around the world.

HDR and LUTs

The 7-inch HDR touchscreen on the Shogun CONNECT ensures you always see an accurate representation of the image. You can check exposure and focus, apply custom LUTs and zoom in to examine specific details. The tools are designed to provide confidence that what you see, is what is recorded.

The Shogun CONNECT is compatible with the most popular recording formats from ARRI, Canon, Fuji, JVC, Nikon, Panasonic, RED and Sony. These can be used to preview SDR or HDR LUTs in real time. You can load your own custom LUTs in .cube format into any of the 8 LUTs for monitoring, loop out or recording. Just select the LUT files (*.cube) from the removable SSD.

Unlimited recording

The ability to record up to 8K, using advanced edit-ready formats including ProRes RAW, ProRes and DNxHD/HR, requires fast, robust and expandable storage. The Shogun CONNECT supports removable SSDs, which provide the space and sustained performance to meet these needs. AtomX SSDmini drives are more compact than standard SATA SSDs and offer an affordable alternative to an SD card of similar capacity or performance. They support up to 4TB of storage, sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s and write speeds of up to 500MB/s. The AtomX SSDmini drives are capable of recording up to 150 minutes of 4K ProRes, measuring 8cm long, 7.5cm wide and weighing just 88g. The drive fits perfectly into the Shogun CONNECT without affecting the overall size of the device.

An optional SSDmini adapter is available, which facilitates the use of CFAST II cards, making it possible to recycle old media cards or adapt them to the camera bracket. In addition to SSDmini, there is also a range of 2.5-inch SSDs that can be used in conjunction with the MasterCaddy III adapter in the Shogun CONNECT box. With the Shogun CONNECT, the only limitation for recording is the size of the SSD. A basic principle of ATOMOS devices is to provide much more flexibility in terms of recording codec, resolution and frame rate than is normally available with internal recording. SSD media also provides more GB per euro than camera cards. This allows for extended recording time for longer productions or recording events.

Streaming from anywhere

The Atomos Shogun CONNECT supports direct streaming to a wide range of online services, including Facebook Live, Twitch, YouTube and RTMP/S custom. With Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit Ethernet and the ability to connect to mobile hotspots, the Shogun CONNECT helps filmmakers, streamers and video content producers reach their audiences from anywhere.

Real-time remote collaboration

Many production teams use Adobe C2C on a daily basis to share footage from the shoot with remote team members. C2C is one of the fastest, easiest and most secure methods of sharing content and collaborating in real time. It creates a direct path from production to post-production teams, allowing media to be transferred from C2C certified devices, wherever you are, via standard network connections to the cloud, for viewing, approval and editing. Clips can be reviewed on any device and editors can start cutting high-quality proxy files (with matching timecode and filenames) before anyone else has finished. Shogun CONNECT opens up the C2C workflow to a significantly wider range of digital cinema, mirrorless and DSLR cameras, allowing more filmmakers than ever to participate in cloud-based workflows and experience the future of production.
