The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is ideal for working in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth-of-field techniques. This lens includes two low F-dispersion (FLD) and three special low dispersion (SLD) elements, as well as aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations and color fringing for clarity and sharpness.
The electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater stability in exposure control, which is especially beneficial when working at fast continuous shooting rates.
This lens features a hypersonic HSM motor to produce fast, smooth and quiet autofocus performance that is complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. HSM also enables full-time manual focus control by simply turning the focus ring at any time.
