Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter - SMPTE Fiber converter

Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter - SMPTE Fiber converter

BMD-CINEURSANWFRSTUD

The Blackmagic Design Studio Fiber Converter is a bi-directional fiber optic interface for the Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter. Capable of communicating with a Camera Fiber Converter over a distance of up to 2 kilometers, the Studio Fiber Converter can be installed in mobile units, television studios and large venues to transmit video, audio, communication and control signals over a single SMPTE fiber connection. On the rear panel, it has SDI connections for HD or UHD 4K video and HD returns. Audio comes out of the four XLR connections. Additional connections include reference input and output, PTZ and intercom/tally on D connectors, Ethernet and SFP fiber (requires a separately available SFP cage). The front panel features a single SMPTE fiber connector for the camera fiber converter and a 5" display.

Allows to connect URSA Broadcast cameras at a maximum distance of 2 kilometers by using fiber optic SMPTE cables. It also facilitates the control of the units and offers multiple communication channels, as well as connections for headphones. This device has a compact design and allows to transmit a UHD signal from the camera or up to three HD signals back through the IP protocol.

Connecting and powering cameras at a distance of 2 km using a single SMPTE fiber optic cable

The new Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter allow you to convert both audiovisual and control and communication signals to transmit them using a single fiber optic SMPTE cable. This allows to place the cameras at a maximum distance of two kilometers from the studio or the outdoor mobile unit. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter version is installed on the back of the unit and has common controls, in addition to additional connections that facilitate the use of mixers and communication systems. Also, the converters have 12G-SDI technology and support all types of formats in HD and UHD, with a maximum resolution of 2160p60. In this way, they offer the possibility of transforming the URSA Broadcast and URSA Mini models into professional studio cameras with all the necessary features to carry out high-end projects.

Place the cameras anywhere: Bring the cameras to the place where the action takes place

In a studio or in large sports venues, it is often necessary to place the cameras in remote locations. SDI connections have a limited range, which makes it difficult to cover long distances. In general, it is necessary to have several expensive cables and extenders in order to be able to feed other equipment or use intercom and Tally systems. This not only makes production preparation more complex, but also increases the likelihood of technical errors. It is possible to solve this problem by using a single SMPTE fiber optic cable for all basic connections, which in turn can cover extraordinary distances. This provides the opportunity to place cameras anywhere and connect them to mobile units parked outside an enclosure, or to a control room in a studio. On the other hand, since the SMPTE standard is common in the Broadcast industry, it allows the use of conventional cables and connections. Thanks to the low price of converters, all this high-end technology is available to teachers, audiovisual producers, places of worship and traditional Broadcasters.

Fiber optic SMPTE, greater resistance and security: Fail-safe system, which interrupts the power supply to avoid risks

The converters work through a SMPTE-311M fiber optic hybrid cable with SMPTE-304 connectors at both ends. This includes a pair of fiber optic bidirectional conductors, another one of data and a third one for the feeding, in addition to a central reinforcement element that gives it the necessary resistance for a continuous use. Once connected, the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter automatically performs a security check before transmitting a 200-volt current to the camera and its accessories. This allows you to install the unit in remote places without worrying about faults in the power system. Both devices also have special microcontrollers that monitor the power supply at all times. On the other hand, they establish a communication with each other, in order to guarantee the presence of a stable optical signal and verify that the power supply is carried out within safe parameters. In case of detecting a cable damage or a loss, the current is cut immediately to avoid all kinds of risks.

10G Ethernet for IP transmissions: Higher speed and lower latency when transmitting audiovisual and control signals

The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter models communicate over a 10G Ethernet link for fiber optics. This allows to encode and decode the signals to transmit them through an IP network with a quality of 10 bits without loss of information. On the other hand, given the low latency of this link, it is possible to control the objectives of the cameras, turn the Tally lights on and off, or communicate with other team members reliably. This guarantees the user's investment and provides the possibility to customize the devices in the future using a high-speed Ethernet infrastructure.

Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter

The Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter is used at the other end of your broadcast camera chain back in the studio or outside broadcast truck. It converts signals from the remote camera back into standard television industry connections that can be used with your live production switchers, audio mixers and talkback interfaces. It features a high capacity power supply to drive the cable so it can provide enough power for your camera and any accessories that you might add. The studio fiber converter includes connections for tally, two dual channel intercoms for industry standard 3rd party talkback systems, and even a backup engineering talkback channel in case the fiber goes down. You get a main Ultra HD camera feed plus 3 independent HD return feeds with full remote camera control, PTZ, tracker talkback and ethernet, all through a single SMPTE fiber cable. Plus, there is a large 5 inch LCD screen right next to the SMPTE fiber connection on the front panel for monitoring signals from the remote camera. This allows for easy patching and verification of the remote camera function.
