The two upgraded Scarlett microphone preamps, equally capable of tracking vocals and instruments, feature switchable phantom power for condenser microphones, pads to prevent distortion on strong input signals, and a channel-selectable Air circuit, which adds clarity-enhancing brightness based on Focusrite's legendary ISA preamp.
The two XLR-1/4" combo inputs are equipped with switches that allow them to accept signal directly from electric instruments such as guitar and bass, from line-level sources such as stereo mixer outputs, or from a hot feed from a drum machine. The rear panel features two additional 1/4" fixed-level inputs to accommodate more line-level sources, such as external mic preamp outputs.
The 24-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA converters, which allow recording at standard CD quality or high-fidelity resolutions, ensure that signals are captured and reproduced with detail and accuracy. With four 1/4" balanced line outputs, a 1/4" stereo headphone jack and independent control of headphone and speaker volume settings, the Scarlett 4i4 can simultaneously feed multiple monitoring systems or external effects processors.
The virtual loopback feature on the Scarlett 4i4 allows podcasters an easy mix-minus setup for receiving calls without the caller being distracted by a delayed audio return signal. In addition, traditional 5-pin MIDI I/O is provided for seamless integration of MIDI equipment such as a keyboard or sound module. You can even use your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to wirelessly control the Scarlett 4i4.
With the Scarlett 4i4 Easy Start tool and independent gain knobs with multicolor gain halo meters, you'll have no trouble setting and dialing in the perfect levels. Plus, there are no complicated menus or controls to slow you down.
Bus-powered for uninhibited portability, with its space-saving USB Type-C connection and comprehensive software package that includes elementary versions of Ableton Live and Avid Pro Tools music production workstations, virtual instruments, plug-in effects, loops and more, the Scarlett 4i4 gives you plenty of powerful tools to get your inspiration going.
